Follow up Friday (but almost Saturday!)

by Jules on January 11, 2013

I’m so excited to join Heart Like A Dog and co-host Bringing Up Bella for my very first Follow-up Friday blog hop.

First of all – I’m still trying to read all of the amazing posts from the 2013 Pet Blogger Challenge. Last time I checked there were 100 bloggers that participated. AMAZING! Thanks again to Amy from Go Pet Friendly for making it happen :)

I’m happy that so many of you liked my idea for Pet Diggity – it gives me a little more motivation to get my butt in gear and finish the web site! Thank you!!

Kittens
The final kitten, Ziggy went to his forever home the Friday before Christmas. I have to tell you, he was an adorable little guy. He slept under the covers with me for two nights and sat on my lap while I worked during the day. ADORABLE. It was so hard for us to see him go, but this message that I received after Christmas warmed my heart:

I hope you enjoyed the holidays! We had one of the best Christmas breaks ever and the main reason for that is Ziggy!

He is getting along so perfectly with our family. He is so easy going, and sweet and as playful as could be. Seriously the coolest cat we have known. He loves all of us back but has taken a special liking to our daughter. She has proven to be extremely responsible in taking care of Ziggy. He sleeps through the night in any one of our beds and is just the highlight of our days. As I write you now  he is having a crazy time with a trader joes shopping bag!

We even took him on a trip to Seatttle last weekend and he was perfect. Traveled well in the car, adjusted quickly to the new surroundings at my Sister-in-law’s house- despite the fact that they have a cat and two little crazy kids. He even slept in my 2-year old nieces lap!

We took him to the vet because we suspect some worms, which is typical. All is good now and it was a good reason to get established at the vet and have a “professional” give our daughter tips on raising a happy, healthy kitty.

Just felt compelled to give you an update!

I also received an equally adorable email from Jezebelle and Bob’s new family. It makes my heart so happy to know that they have wonderful families to take care of them!

I wish I could be more like my dog:
Back in August I wrote this post because I was extremely frustrated about losing weight. The day I wrote this post I went for a walk and cried for most of the walk and decided that I could be depressed, or I could do something about it. I signed up for MyFitnessPal that day and didn’t look back.

It seems silly to me that such a simple little phone app could make such a big difference, but it did! The app tracks your calories for you and is SO simple to use. Most of the things that I eat are already in there, so I just type in the food, and it figures out the calories for me. I have never been one that believed in counting calories, but trust me, it works!

I have lost 20 pounds since August and I feel great because it has been slow and gradual! No gimmicks, no diets . . . just me eating 1200 calories a day. Knowing how many calories I am actually eating has been eye opening. Some of the “healthy” choices I thought I was making had more calories than I thought. The great thing is that I get MORE calories when I exercise which is VERY motivating to me. I have walked almost 300 miles since August. (yes, you read that right THREE HUNDRED MILES!!) Woo hoo! I’m not looking for kudos or praise, I just want as many people as possible to know about MyFitnessPal – I think it is the coolest app ever!

My hubby just celebrated a birthday on January 5th and we decided that Cali is the best present we could possibly ask for!

That’s it for now! I hope you have a great weekend!

Congrats on Ziggy finding a home that obviously loves him so much! And an even bigger congrats on losing all that weight. You say you aren’t looking for praise, but hey, that’s an awesome accomplishment and you should be proud! :-)

I feel so stupid for forgetting to add a note about the Pet Blogger Challenge in my FuF yesterday. Like you, we are still wading through all the posts. This may take a while. :)

On the other hand, I think I have been able to get around to everyone’s FuF posts (I think…) so thank you for joining in the fun.

But the real reason I rushed right over here to comment when I saw your post in my Inbox this morning is because I LOVE MyFitnessPal, too! I missed your August post (or maybe I just didn’t have the words to reply at the time because I so understand every word you wrote) but Jan and I had a ‘come to Jesus’ meeting back in June and got serious about getting healthy. We’ve lost 15 pounds each and even managed to keep it off during the holidays.

I never had to watch what I ate before so MyFitnessPal was an eye-opener for me. One day a long while back (not this round of eating right), I stopped at Wendy’s thinking I’d get a single cheeseburger because I didn’t have time to eat something better. How bad could it be, right? When I checked it out later I found it was 530 calories! For a cheeseburger? Good grief, no wonder I was gaining weight – that was half my caloric intake for the day!

Anyway, I just wanted to come by and congratulate you for moving past the depression part and getting on with things. It is not easy – I know.

PS – Cali is so freakin’ cute. :)

Hey Jules, thanks for joining in on FUF, anytime you want to co-host, just let me know!!

Love your follow-up. I’m so glad all the kittens got forever homes, I know how worried you were that you might end up with them and so nice that they keep in touch and update you on their lives.

I have a “Lose IT” app on my phone that sort of did the same thing, but I lost so much and then just stalemated. I don’t know what happened, so I stopped tracking. :-(

It’s so awesome that you lost 20 pounds!! I’d be happy to do that too. In fact the last time I dropped 20 pounds it was because I eliminated all processed food from my diet and did a 20 minute sweat every night. I’m not sure I’m ready to do that yet, but I would like to lose some weight before BlogPaws. You should give yourself a pat on the back!!

I just started using MyFitnessPal at the beginning of the year to help me lose 10 lbs. I’m glad to hear that you’ve had such great success. 20 lbs is incredible!

I just finished reading all the post, Julie! It was a absolute joy for me and really got my creative juices flowing again. I have a whole list of things I want to blog about after reading other people’s posts! Thanks again for participating – it will be good reading material over the next several weeks. =)
